Employer Resources Board provides tools to address the hiring challenge

A program developed by Sherwin-Williams features a collection of resources designed to help painting contractors overcome the current hiring challenges facing the industry.

The Employer Resources Board is part of Sherwin-Williams’ comprehensive Paint Your Path program, which is designed to encourage people to choose a career in painting. The Paint Your Path program includes a wealth of resources to educate and inspire present and future painters, including advice for painting contractors to improve their hiring and training practices. Available in English and Spanish, the Employer Resources Board gathers articles and tools addressing recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding, all focused on giving contractors the assistance they need to make quality hires.

“Finding good employees remains a challenge throughout the painting industry,” says Freddy Carrillo, Sherwin-Williams Vice President Marketing. “As industry leaders, we at Sherwin-Williams recognized an opportunity to help paint company owners and managers improve their hiring and training practices, and we folded it into the Paint Your Path program.

“The Employer Resources Board provides learning opportunities and puts additional resources at hand, all in an effort to help you build your team.”

The Recruitment section of the Board features:

  • “10 Steps to Better Hiring”, an article that provides a methodical step-by-step process for successful hires.
  • The Paint Your Path recruitment flyer, designed to highlight the advantages of a career in painting.
  • The Residential Painter job description template, a customizable example that describes the basic responsibilities of an entry-level painter.

The Interviewing section of the board features:

  • A fact sheet from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to help you ensure that interview subject matter is legally compliant.
  • “10 Quick Tips for Small Businesses,” an article from the EEOC that can help ensure that your operational practices are legally compliant.

The Onboarding section of the board features:

  • A link to the Paint Pro Training resources that Sherwin-Williams has developed to grow the skill sets of painters. These free online videos address skills ranging from brush & roller basics to ladder safety.

  • And a downloadable W-4 form for your new employee to make withholding determinations.

Additional links to articles that address the labor shortage are also provided.

“We’ve gathered the tools that can help make hiring easier, keep you legally compliant, and get your new crew members up and running with the training and documents they need,” says Carrillo. “This is another initiative designed to help you focus on the things you do best. Let us help with the rest.”
