Answers to pro painter’s most pressing questions by Rick Watson
What products do you you recommend for filling in nail holes?
There are many filler products on the market, but before you buy there are things you need to consider.
In most cases, putties and fillers should be primed over. Otherwise your finishes could flash.
In addition, the filler has to be compatible with the primer/finish. I would shy away from water-based products when using MDF because it has a tendency to swell.
Minwax has a number of wood preparation, maintenance and repair items like Blend-Fil Pencil, Wood Putty, Stain Markers, as well as Stainable Wood Fillers.
If you are working on painted trim, Minwax® High Performance Wood Filler might just do the trick. Primer would be required before painting.
