Premium Products for Prescott’s Best Homes

Whether painting historic Victorians on the east coast or earth-toned stucco homes in the sunny southwest, Doug Noble has been making homeowners happy for more than three decades.

Noble started his painting career at a young age working for his father’s company in southern New Jersey. He and his wife later took over the reins of that business, and then moved it with their family to Prescott, Arizona in the 1990s. One reason for his success, he believes, is that he always recommends using the best paint products available.

“Whenever we could find a better product to use on homeowner’s homes, we would use it,” he says.

For exteriors, that means Duration® Exterior Acrylic Latex on fascia, and EmeraldResilience® or SuperPaint® on the body. For interiors, his preferred paints are ProClassic® Enamel on doors, trim and baseboards, and Cashmere® Interior Acrylic Latex on walls.

“If I could offer any advice to ones starting out it’s this: Don’t skimp on product, be honest with people, and take pride in what you do.”

“It pays for us to use Cashmere instead of lower-quality paints,” Noble says. “It applies buttery smooth, and gives us great coverage. We noticed right away how smooth the walls felt when we used Cashmere. Our customers love how it looks.”

That includes Janet Bussell, an interior designer that has hired Noble to paint several of her highest profile custom homes in the most exclusive neighborhoods and gated communities in the Prescott area.

“She’s extremely fussy,” Noble says. “She sees the difference that Cashmere makes, and now she wouldn’t want us to paint with anything else.”

Selling with color

Noble learned the trade painting Victorian style homes, so recommending colors to his customers comes naturally. It’s a talent he’s passed on to his son D.J., who is now working with the company full-time.

“We love color. We’re not afraid of it at all,” he says. “Oftentimes we’ll hear a homeowner say, ‘We’d love to try a different color – maybe on an accent wall, but we’re not too sure where.’ We help them out and offer suggestions.”

A good example is at one of their recent Prescott home repaints. The owner wanted to spice up the existing all-white interiors, and the Nobles worked with her to pick the perfect shades to match their taste and décor.

“She really wanted to have the right color for the ceilings,” Doug says, and the architectural features of the foyer gave them a chance to make a bold color statement. Taking a cue from the existing front door color, D.J. suggested a deep red that they took to the color experts at the Prescott Valley Sherwin-Williams store for custom tinting. Added bonus: The color also matched the reds in the couple’s artwork and other furnishings.

A color all his own

The homeowner was so happy that she even insisted that they name the color “Noble Red” in honor of the painters. Because of Sherwin-Williams exclusive ColorSnap® Precision computerized color matching system, even a custom shade like this can be made to order again perfectly at any one of the company’s 4,000-plus stores.

“In our business we are always trying to improve the quality of work,” Noble says. “That’s why we depend on Sherwin-Williams to help us in accomplishing that. They always seem to be coming up with better products for any painting needs and keep us on top of our game.”
